About

What We Do

Prospect Park Media was born and raised in Pasadena, California, by publisher Colleen Dunn Bates, a sixth-generation Southern Californian. We produce high-quality publications, both print and digital, often with California authors. Our work includes:

— The premier food-lover’s guide to L.A., EAT: Los Angeles, as well as its companion site, Eat-LA.com and the fully searchable and mappable iPhone app, EatLA

— Lively, engaging fiction by Southern California authors, including the bestselling Helen of Pasadena; look for more fiction, including mysteries, in the coming seasons

— Smart, funny humor books, like The Neurotic Parent’s Guide to College Admissions

— Gorgeous, award-winning cookbooks, including Celebrating with Julienne, The Santa Monica Farmers’ Market Cookbook, and the upcoming Little Flower: Recipes from the Café

— Award-winning, four-color, in-depth guidebooks, written by locals for locals and savvy travelers. These include The Spa Less Traveled, Hometown Pasadena, Hometown Santa Barbara and Hometown Santa Monica

— Pasadena’s leading online magazine, Hometown-Pasadena.com, where everyone in town keeps up with the arts, people, culture, happenings, food, homes/gardens, books and more

—  Beautiful custom-published books for organizations and individual authors, including Altadena Town & Country Club: A Centennial History, The Complete Guide to Check Collecting, Holy Family Church 1910–2010, Tower of Pasadena and Pocket of Paradise

— Experienced special-sales distribution for local books

— Consulting and editorial and production services for authors, self-publishers and new publisher start-ups

Who We Are

Prospect Park Media is a lean, mean publishing machine. In the office are three of us: publisher and editor Colleen Dunn Bates, associate publisher Patty O’Sullivan, and sales and marketing director Caroline Purvis. We are supported by an extraordinary team of freelance talent, including the authors; designers Joseph Shuldiner and Kate Hillseth/Color Show; site editors and writers, including Kat Ward, William Goldstein, Mel Malmberg, Matt Hormann, Jean Gillis and Sandy Gillis; skilled photographers and illustrators; and our wonderful book distributor, SCB Distributors.

Submissions

We will consider submissions, with or without an agent, of humor, popular fiction, mysteries, children’s picture books, and cooking/food titles. If your book is sci-fi, YA, romance, religious, self-help, poetry, business, or pretty much anything else, please look elsewhere. Please no phone calls; e-mail info at prospectparkmedia.com with a very short pitch, and if we’re interested we’ll ask for more.
